Pleasant recollections of the American tenor Charles Hackett still linger in New Zea'and. His tour was 1 great refieshment to sincere lovers of music, and Hacneii was not'only a, very fine singer but a discerning and cultured artist. One of his records, recently received lrom the Columbia, studios is '"Who is Sylvia? ' It amply demonstrates the beauty of his voice and the high degiee of his art. It somstimes happens that what one want 6in a record is on one side and what one does not particularly care about is on the other. It is not so in this case, for the- reverse to "Sylvia" is Schubert's "Serenade" in Erglish,- and perfectly sung. One can say of Hackett that he sings likj • gentleman. Both these songs attest it.
