SUMNER ITEMS.
All Saints' Church. There 'were very large congregations at both the morning and evening services last Sunday, when celebration of the harvest thanksgiving ivas held. The church was very effectively decorated with fruits of the earth, and special music' was well rendered, including the anthem "O, Lord, How Manifold Are Thy Works." At tho evening service the Rev. 0. W. Williams was the preacher. The evening service at the Redcliffs Mission Room to-morrow is to be conducted by the vicar. St. Leonard's Square. A start has been made to convert St. Leonard's square into playing order for the coming season, and for the past week the old stumps have provided m&terial for several bonfires. As a result a resinous odour has penetrated to all corners of the borough —so much so that one resident rose at 4 a.m. expecting to find his home going up in smoke. Opening of the Golf Season. Nest Saturday will mark the opening of the golf season at the Richmond Hill Club, and is being looked forward to by a great number of enthusiasts. During the past week a large amount of work has been put in to bring the links up t& playing standard—and the fairways having been burnt, it only needs some showers of rain to make them into first-class order. Next Saturday, mixed foursomes over nine holes will be played, and afternoon tea will bo dispensed by the lady members. Personal. Mrs Thodey (The Esplanade), who has been spending a holiday in Timaru and Oamaru, has returned home. Miss Helen Leithead, who recently left Sumner to undertake studies in massage at the Dunedin Hospital, is expected home for the Easter holidays. Cricket Club. Close-of-the-scason play recently took place at Lancaster Park, where the A and B teams played a match, ending in a draw. Early in the afternoon the club president, Mr P. A. Tapson, briefly addressed the members, and congratulated them upon the progress the new club was making. He said that the season's progress was very satisfactory, and a good augury for tho future prosperity of the game in Sumner. Bowling. Friendly matches wero played this week between local members of'the Sumner Club and those from St. Albans and United. Against the former, tho home team, playing on their own ground, lost by 1-2, while against United, at United, they lost 2-3. This enioyable series of matches is to be continued next week against Linwood, at Sumner, and the return match against St. Albans, at St. Albans. . ELECTORAL ROLLS.
(PBZSS ASSOCIATION TELBQKAM.) WELLINGTON, March 27. Electoral registrations undc_r the Act of last session show a total of 704,443. At the last election there were 700,111 on tho rolls, and 620,650 voted. There are some additional returns to come besides informal applications in the course of correction. A further source of increase will be those who become entitled to vote as they reach qualification day by day.
