HEATHCOTE COUNTY COUNCIL.
* The Heathcotc County Council met. last night. Present: Cra. C. Flavcll (chairman), W. \\. Starff, B. Riley. W. Kerr, J. H. Moore, A. F. Smith and A. H. Adams. improvements and works at Huntsbury were discussed by tho Councillors with Messrs \\', H. Seed and R. S. Badger, who waited'on'the Council. The residents wished, said Mr Badger, lo meet the Council as fairly as possible in the matter. Eventually arrangements were made for the inspector and Or. Adams to meet the residents of Huntebury at the settlement this afternoon.
Regarding a loan for channelling at Opawa it was stated that the Board of Health -would not meet before the end of next month, and perhaps not till Afay. The chairman said that that, was unsatisfactory. The Health Department, he said, had pushed the Council into the work and tho Council had accepted a contract, but could not go on with it. If the Board of Health did not meet thero should be some other way of dealing with such questions. He contended that the Council should write the Minister about it. He felt strongly that the position was unsatisfactory. It was resolved that the Minister be written to, pointing out the urgency of the work and the unsatisfactory nature of the delays.
As the result of a letter from the Health Department statins that a builder's workman had laid drains at a place in Cashmere road -without bavin; a storm-water drainage license, and that a breach of the by-law had been committed, it was decided to WTite the builder concerned that the Council -would take action udlcss a satisfactory explanation wa? given. The report of the inspector stated that the timber at the Waimairi end of tho Bower Bridpe was completely rotten, and that a renewal in timber or concrete was necessary. A fare wall at. the end of the piles and two wingr walls should be built of concrete, at an estimated cost of £6O. Concerning; the approach at the Heathcote end the inspector said that it was not so bad, the earthwork seemed to be more solid, and work at the end could be deferred. The report was adopted.
