CASUALTIES.
By a collision which took place near Hill's corner in High street, Southbridge, a greengrocer named Frank Peterson had several ribs broken on his left side, his left leg was badly bruised from thigh to ankle, and he was otherwise knocked about. It appears that Mr W. J. Day, the fciouth-bridge-ChristchUTch motor-ous proprietor, had pulled up on the side of the road to hand out some goods ho had brought from town for Peteison. He had just stepped on to the bus again when a car driven by Mr W. M. Gabbie, of Littje Sakaia, who was returning from Christchurch, collided with Peterson. The car landed on its side in the water-race, but was not badly damaged. Dr. W. A. Johnston, of Leeston, who came along shortly after, conveyed the injured man to the County Hospital at Leeston. Yesterday afternoon he was reported to be making satisfactory progress. '

At the inquest on Dayid Wishart, who was found dead in bed at k a. lodginghouse in Grey street on Wednesday, evidence was given that death was due to asphyxiation by gas. Deceased apparently deliberately arranged the gas tube with suicidal intentions. He had oeen dead two days when found. A verdict of suicide was returned. A man, whose name is believed to be Joe Harrison, was knocked dc-wu by .1 motor-car in Maimkau road, and died in hospital to-day.
