BOROUGH COUNCILS.
KAIAPOI. Tho Kaiapoi. Borough Council, met. last night. Present—The 'Mayor, /Mr H. Mcintosh, anu all the councillors. ~ The' Kaiapoi Beautifying. Association wroto asking that the sum of. £l2O- be placed on .the estimates for the coming yelr as a giant towards the funds of the Association. The" letter was referred to-the Finance Committee.
The secretary, Canterbury Fi»'.'' Underwriters' Association, in reply to' the Council's letter regarding "earthing conditions in connexion witn.tbe electrical reticulation of tho borough, stated that the matter had been referred to tho chief electrical, inspector, who would be in Kaiapoi about i.the midci'.e of March and would go into the matter.
The . letter was. received.' Mr C. W. Oborn's application to lease section 41 at Kairaki :was granted." Mr H. O. Whitmore' notified having purchased Mr J. McAllister's property at K.airaki and asked the Council's approval of the transfer.
The transfer was .approved. On the recommendation of the Finance Committer it was decided to support the proposal that the Hospital Board loan should be for five years. i The Works Committee reported having considered the question of drawing up a. scheme of work in regard to permanent road formation in the borough, and had written to Mr H. F. Toogood, C.E., Wellington, enquiring on what terms he will visit tho borough to interview councillors and inspect the roads with a,view of obtaining his report ano advising the Council generally as to the best method to adopt. The report was. adopted. The Sea Side Reserves Committee Recommended that Messrs Simpson. and Collins be released from their obligation with regard to section 3, Kairaki, .that Mr J. B. Wvlie be released as regards section z9 at" The Pines,' and that. tue application of Mr A.'W. Heald for the section be granted; that-the transfer of section 16 at The Pines from Mr J. Staples to Mrs A. V. Morton be granted; that the transfer of section pt. Lot 70, Kairaki. from Mrs. White.to Mr S Watson be granted; that the .owner iof lot 50-.at The Pines be requested to take down a dangerous tree; that the application of Mr J. Barnard for. a refund of £2, deposit mid by him for lot 6 at "The Pines. Jbe in-anted: that tho residents of The Pines be thanked, for their work in cleamng u ? the roads and oval. '.'; Tho report was adopted. • .-■■ The Finance- Committee recommended that the attention of the Waimakariri River Trust be drawn to the cost of and collecting the.River Trust rate, and that the Trust be charged 15 per cent, of the total rate for collecting etc.: that the account rendered' by ,Mr . M., Phillips.' for ing stock be paid; that the application of, Mr W. .Moore for refund.of■ rates be granted.
