Hie scrutineers slated . that, while the voting papers were being handed out, one of them had asked an official what action they should take with regard to voting papers which did cot contain twelve names this being the number required for the committee. They had been told that there must be twelve names on each paper. While counting the votes they had discovered twelve papers names, and one containing thirteen. Theyhad not, therefore, included these in the • count. 'When the ..result of the election was made known, the scrutineers had stated that there hid been thirteen informal votes, and had destroyed: the voting papers. Captain Oakey said the committee as declared elected had met.the same night, and he had been elected" chairman, but had accepted th? office pro. tern only, on account of the lrtenesa of the hour. They had met again on Thursday last, and it had then been brought under his notice that, there had been an alleged irregularity in their election. Under the circumstances, the committee had decided that it was not' properly constituted, ind^would not tie justified m transacting business.' They had therefore called another general meeting for the purpose of investigating'the alleged irregularity and, if necessary, or having a fresh election. After some discussion, the meeting decided that tho previous election had been irregin • and nominations for committeemen were called for. Fresh scrutineers were appointed. Twenty-four names were proposed. r and the following were declared elected:—Messrs A "N". Oakev, L. Dewar, R. Herron, B. li. Shillito, jun., E. Earwaker, J- King, ■H. Tiplady, H. Hall, T. Segar. W. Scott, C. Campbell, and A. McCullough.
