OBITUARY.

A former' well-known resident of Manawatu, Mr Alfred Drew, died on Friday 'at. Sanson, aged seventy-six years. The late Mr Drew was born at the Isle of "Wight. Deceased, ill company with "his parents, went to Australia in 1856, and four years later they came to New Zealand, making their home at Nelsons-Deceased remained at Nelson for some years, and was captain of the Nelson Rugby representatives in the first interprovincial football match in New Zealand, when his team beat Wellington at Petone. He joined his brother, the late Mr S. H. Drew, at Wanganui, in a jewellerybusiness, later going; to New Plymouth, and then to Palmerston North in . 1896. . While resident in Palmerston he was associated with public bodies. Besides being conductor of the Choral Society and organist at AH Saints' Chureh, he was also first secretary of the Palmerston North Bowling Club, and oa one occasion won the North Island bowling championship. For the past four years Tie resided at Whangarei, but recently took uo residence with his son at Sanson. He i£ survived by. four sons and three daughters; Messrs H. T. B.'Drew, New Zealand Government Publicity Officer, Londotf; A. K. Drew, clerk to the Manawatu County Council, of Sanson; C. Y. and S. N, Drew, of Dannevirke; and Mesdames 6. Woolley, | "Whangarei; H. Griffiths, Hamilton, and Miss Drew, Whangarei.
