CHURCH COUNCIL SET UP.

LONDON, .February 15,

The Church Assembly, on the'motion of the Bishop of London, parsed a resolution approving the establishment of a Council of Overseas Settlement, which would disseminate information in regard to openings for settlers and attend to their selection and welfare.

The Council, consisting of 24, will include a chairman nominated by the Archbishop of Canterbjiry and 10 members nominated by the Assembly, and the Bishop of London.

It is believed that the Government will contribute one-third of thp working expenses, the'total of which is estimated at £7500. The Dominions will guarantee another third. Thti Bishop of Salisbury said that it yras high time : the Church made itself felt in the matter. They wcre bound to uphold the spiritual ideals of the British Commonwealth. Tho best way to ensure tho continuation of AngloSaxon traditions and customs throughout the Empire was to give- to the Dominions settlers who were brought Up ill'the right atmosphere, ' ' The Assembly accepted Bishop Ford- j sham's amendment deleting from the adopted resolution words indicating that j one of the Oouucil *B-objects would bo thb promotion of the Government's policy as embodied in the Empire Settle* ment Act.
