\ A deputation from the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, which ceased active operation when the State Orchestra was formed several years ago, appealed to the Lord Mayor (Alderman Stokes) to assist in its reformation. The Lord Mayor said that he fully recognised trtie value to the city of a fine symphony orchestra, and he would place the views of the deputation before the Council, with a view to determining whether assistance could be given.
A very remarkable specimen of pineapple came from the Fiji Trading Company's plantation on the Island of Moala during the week (says the "Taranaki Herald"). It was sent in to the firm at Levuka by their manager, Mr Acraman, and is of the cultivated "queen" pine variety. The "Polynesian Gazette" thus describes it:' The pineapple was framed like a large fan consisting of fully a dozen pines attached to one with fully 53 different green heads. The dimensions were as follow: Weight, 191b; breadth across the top, 2ft; circumference, 4ft; height. 14in. It created a great deal of interest —never had such a "freak" been observed before in the opinion of old planters in the form of pineapple growing.
