DEFINITION OP THE TERM. For the guidance of the public and the tailoring trade,, an. Orderrin-Coun-cil furnishes a specific definition of the term "tailor-made." This vexed question has been the subject of several deputations to the Minister of Labour (lion. G. J. Anderson). According to these regulations, which take »effect from March Ist, 1925, every-person commits an^offence : who sells, agrees or offers to sell as hand-made or hand-tailored any garment that is not wholly made by hand. Every person commits an offence who sells, offers or agrees to sell as tailormade any garment which is not tailormade. A garment sold, offered for sale or described as tailored to order or tailored t to measure or in- any other way represented to have been tailormade, will be deemed to have been sold, offered for sale or- described as tailor-made, as the case may be; If any person sells, agrees or offers to sell or advertises for sale tailormade garments and other garments made to measure, he must, before selling or agreeing to sell^any'garment made-to-measure that is not tailormade, inform the purchaser that the garment is not tailor-made. In any proceedings for a breach of this provision it lies with the seller to prove that he informed the purchaser. . "Tailor-made" means made-to-mea-sure 'by hand in accordance with the conditions in the regulations, and so far as the work is performed by employees and carried out according to the provision of the current awards or industrial agreements relating to the employment of shop tailors and shop tailoresses in.' the locality. "Tailormade" includes "hand-made."

"Garment" means a man's i.or boy's coat, trousers, breeches, vest, or overcoa.t, other than an oilskin overcoat. The minimum amount of work to be performed by hand in a tailor-made garment and the special conditions for its making are specified in a schedule attached to the regulations.
