SUMNER ITEMS.
All Saints' Church. The service to-morrow morning is to be to the memory of the late Mr Edward Denham, for many years a member of the congregation and at one time vestryman and Synodman. The preacher at the evening service will be the Kev. Stephen Parr.
Seaman's Institute. At a recent meeting of the Guild, it was decided, in view of the Health Department's restrictions regarding public gatherings, to postpone the garden fete, which is held in conjunction with the annual meeting of the Guild. Life-Saving. '" A meeting of the Committee of the Life-Saving Club was lield on Thursday, when Mr T. Newburgh presided. A motion of condolence with the relatives of the late Mr 'E. Denham was carried in silence. Mr Sarelius was accorded a vote of sympathy in his indisposition. Two new members were elected. After discussion it was agreed that it be a recommendation to the Competitions Committee that competitions be held on week days or liolidays. The secretary reported that the Benson Shield Competition had been postponed indefinitely.
Eedcliffs Bowling and Croquet Club. The newly-formed Bowling and Croquet Club at Eedcliffs is meeting with ready financial support from the residents, and everything points to the venture being a great.success. An ,'iere of land has been purchased in Slater street, and greens are now being laid out and will be ready for play next season. At a lecent meeting hell in Eedcliffs the following officers were elected:—Patron, Mr W. H. Nicholson; president, Mr H. W. Harris; vice-presi-dent, Mr J. H. Eeynolds; hon. secretary, Mr j. A. Eussell; hon. treasurer, Mr R. Williams; hon. auditor, Mr. W. Harrison; committee, Mrs T>. Coleman and Mrs C. Welsford, Messrs A. H. Thompson, A. Holden, E. J. Hill, F. Strong, D. Teppitt, and D. Waghorn.
Efficiency League. At a meeting of the Sumner Efficiency League it was decided to invite the Rannerdale Soldiers at present visiting Sumner to a garden party at "Brantholme," the residence of Mrs Isaac Wilson, who had kindly offered her grounds for the purpose. Tho date fixed was February 20th.
Personal. Mr G. F. Allen (Euston street) and the Misses Myrtle and Freda Allen and Mr Cyril Allen have returned from a motoring trip in the north. Dr. and Mrs Bates and family are moving to their.new home in Heaton street on Wednesday. Mr and Mrs R. B. Tingey and family (Irines road) return home on Monday after eight weeks' holiday in the borough. Mr and Mrs Nat Woods and family return to town on Monday. • Mrs N. Hill and family are back from a holiday in the North Island.
