PRICE OF WHISKY. ——« LETTER TO PROVINCIAL HOTEL. In its fight to secure for the public its liquor at reasonable prices the Provincial Hotel has had to encounter the bitter hostility of rival interests. Last week the Provincial announced that it was selling Ainslie's Whisky, at 10s 6d a large bottle, this liquor being quoted on the Licensed Victuallers' official list at 14s, and the Provincial's previous priqo having been 12s. The sequel is in the form of the following letter received by Mr Geo. Hes, proprietor of the Provincial Hotel, from the Canterbury agents for Ainslie's whisky:— Mr Geo. lies, , Provincial Hotel, Christchurch. . Dear Sir, —Referring to your advertisement in the "Star" of the. 7th inst., quoting Ainslie's whisky at 10s 6d per bottle'you make it appear as if the whisky we are agents for is an inferior brand, thereby, doing, us a grave injury. We regret that under the circumstances we are unable to supply you with any more. Thanking you for past favours. Tours faithfully, For and on behalf of Frederick Cross and Son, Ltd., J. E. W. Cross, Managing Director. In reply to this letter the Provincial Hotel assures the public, that it is not to be intimidated by any threats. It has a considerable supply of Ainslie's whisky in bond, and when this is exhausted the Provincial Hotel will be able to supply its patrons with another line just as good. r
