MOTORISTS AND SHEEP.
TO THE SUITOR OF "THE PBESS." Sir,—"With your permission and on be bail f of those who drive sheep on the ptibiic highway, I would like to draw attention to tho lack of courtesy t,hown l'V a section of motorists, chiefly tho reckless speed-hoc on the motorcycle. T had occasion to bo on tbo road with a draft, of lambs fresh from the paddock. A motor-cycle approached from behind, travel lino; the usual speed in Court cases, viz.," twelve miles per hour. Ho opened the throttle and iill those pipes that produce bound, just on the. vino; of tho mob. In a neck-and-neck race between him and tho leaders of tho mob, he collides with one or more lambs; and the same Providence that takes pare of drunk men and little children allowed him to escape unhurt, in a cloud of dust, with his machine number completely obscured. A milo behind me, on tho same day, a mob of seventy lambs were rushed through a wire fence on the road side by a passing motor-waggon. I might s.iy that I know of five cases in the last fortnight where motorists (chiefly motor-cyclists) have don© injnry to sheep on the road. The standard of intelligence in a sheep is not high, but tho drovor expects the motorist to supply any lack of- intelligence, in th© sheep, presuming, of course, that it is in him to do so.—Yours, etc.. It. H. JOHNSTON. Thinsandel. N.B.—Since writing tho above. I. havo a killing sheet that fihows two lambs, each 4o!b, rejected bruised.
