BIG ADDITIONS PLANNED. . j So crowded out and hampered in their work are the Town Hall office staffs in Sydney that in order to afford relief and to obviate , men having to work in corridors and similar other undesirable places, it is proposed to erect an oight-storyed addition, costing ■ '£'96,000. This will be at the rear of the Town Hall,' and will front Druitt street. This, however, is only one of the proposed additions, as the scheme already approved provides for a further three-storeyed addition, also fronting Druitt street, being carried out at some later date. The estimated cost of the complete scheme is £265,700, It is stated that it will take the best part of two years. Lo complete the eight-storeyed building, which will be used for accommodating the City Engineer, City Building Surveyor, Comptroller of Assets, and Health. Departments. At present, the .business of the City Health Department is conducted in the'southern end of the Queen Victoria Building! Its separation from the Town Hall is regarded as a distinct disadvantage. • ■ The main addition will comprise a three-storeyed building adjoining the Town Hall on <he Druitt street side. In this new structure will bo situated the chief administrative offices; also the new council chamber, which will be modernly designed, and of much larger' dimensions than the present one. Much larger . gallery accommodation for the public also will be provided. " . , ,
In-the basement will be the City Treasurer's Department. On the main floor will be the Town Clerk, City Assessor, and Auditor's Departments. On the first floor will be the council chamber • (about 55ft by 30ft), tho Town Clerk's office, Lord Mayor's room, Lady Mayoress's r00m,." two aldermen's rooms, press room, visitors' room, public gallery, and large .'refreshment room. •
