SUBURBAN LIBRARIES.
SPREYDON AND ST. MARTINS
Proposals for establishing suburban libraries in Spreydon and St. Martins came before the City Council last night." The Reserves Committee reported that an enquiry had been received from the Spreydon Burgesses' Association as to whether it would be possible for the Council to grant a site for the proposed library in the Spreydon yard. The committee was of opinion that the request, could be complied with, biit before taking any steps in the matter of taking a poll in the proposed rating area, which the Association proposed should include the whole of the late borough of Spreydon the committee suggested that the poll should be requested-by a petition, which should be signed by not less than 20 per cent, of the ratepayers, in the area. . ■ ... ■ Regarding the library at St. Martins, the committee reported that a deputation waited upon the committee at its last meeting from-the St." Martin's Residents' Association in connexion with the erection of'a library and hall in their district. They had' purchased a section, 26 perches in area, at the corner of Wilson's and Wade's roads, which they were prepared to hand over to the Council if the Council would erect a library, and, if possible, a hall. The matter was referred to a sub-com-mittee to bring down a report to the nest meeting of the committee, and it would be further dealt with in the committee's next report to the Council. The report was adopted.
