THE VATICAN.
FRENCH AMBASSADOR. PROBABLE RECALL. (by cable—press association—-copyright.) (AUSTRALIAN AND N.Z. CABLE ASSOCIATION.) (Received January 21st, 8.45 p.m.) PARIS, January 20. In the course of a debate on foreign affairs in the Chamber of Deputies, M. llcrriot discussed, the withdrawal of the Embassy from tho Vatican. He declared that the Pope, while a Temporal Sovereign, had a Tight to Ambassadors, but as a spiritual Sovereign, charged with tho spread of Christian doctrines throughout the.world, he was not depreciated through being excluded from the tortuous paths of diplomacy. Prance had always taken caro to exclude the Church from internal affairs. It is rumoured in tho lobbies that M. Herriot will probably eventually adopt a compromise recalling-tho Ambassador and leaving a Charge d'Affaires in contact with the Holy See.
