EARLY TRAIN TO KAIAPOI.

TIME OF DEPARTURE ALTERED. The value of persistent agitation has been evidenced by the results obtained by the Canterbury Progress League in connexion with tho early train from Ohristcihurch. to Kaiftpol by which workers m tho city travel to ■ their employment at the freezing works at Kaaapo£. Consequent upon tho train reaching Kaiapoi two minutes after 8 a.m. the

workers travelling by it could Hot, under the railway regulations, obtain tho benefit of workers' concession tickets, and two or threo years ago the Railway Committee of the League started an agitation with the object' of halving the time of departure of the train from Christchurch altered so that it would reach Kaiapoi a few minutes before 8 a.m. Tito committee's efforts to have this alteration made, or to have the regulation more liberally interpreted have been unsuccessful until recently. Advice has just been !received frdm the Railway Dfepartnueht that the train will leave Christchurch «tt 7.15 a.m., instead of 7.20 a.m. as in the past, which will enable it to arrive at Kaiapoi before 8 a.m. This will enable workers to avail themselves or the workers' concession tickets. The new arrangement is to he. given a trial for twelve months, and, if it proves satisfactory, it will become permanent. Consequent on the earlier departure of the train from Chlistehurch, the departure from R-angiora will bo a little earlier than at present in order that the trains can cross at Kfuapoi. Tho cliange will, he welcomed by many workers who. owing to the previous refusal of the Department to make the neeefisary alteration in tho departure of the train from Christchurch, luiro taken up their residence m Jlaiapoi during tho season 'at tho freezing woiks. It is anticipated that one result will bo that they will now be able to live ,in Christcnuroh; another anticipated result is that more workers will patronise the train
