OBITUARY.
♦ The death occurred somewhat suddenly on Wednesday night, of Mr Adam Donaldson, who was for many years a well-known boat-builder residing at Bluff. There died in Wellington Hospital on Friday a well-known figure in ni.ixino engineering in the person of Eueine»->'-Lieutenant Ernest Demon. R.X.R- Th~~ ceased was born in 187-1 at Itytte, Cheshire, and served with several prominent engineering firms in England until 1001T when- be came out to Ne--v Zealand. Ho returned to England on. the Fifvshire and sailed for some year ; -. as m-irino with Lamport aaid Holt, and other lines. In 190S Mr Denton came out to Now Zealand again and was .appointed instructor in engineering at, the Christchurch Technical College. .At the outbreak of the Great War "the late Mr Denton was cngaced on Diesel engine work at Home, and he supervised the installation of Diesel maehinerv on H.M.S. Elizabeth, also beino; engaged in the operations on the Belgian coast. In be installed the Diesel machinery on Renown, and after further vnr service, was repatriated To New Zealand. Hero, in spite of ill-health, be sen-cd on several eo.-! S tal vessels, and left the ill-fated Ripple just before she was iost with all hands. The la.te Mr Demon possessed a gonial personality and was universally respected and admired. A veteran bowler and colonist of over PC years' residence in New Zealand. Mr Alexander Stewart died a. few day?, ago at Grey Lynn, Auckland, at the advanced ago of 92. Mr iStowait, -who was born in Perth, Scotland, Bottled m | Dunedin when .->, young man. He carried on a bakery business until about clO years ago when he retired and went to Auckland. He led a very active life until even r©o6ufc years and was n popular figure on all the Auckland bowling creens. whore he-was weJl known as one of the former champions of the gam©. He held the championship of the Caledonian Bowling Club at Dunedin for a fvoasori aJid. ivas for three years in succession champion of the Auckland Club. As. a lifo member of the Carlton Club, ho was for many years a prominent competitor iu inter-club contests.
