NEW ZEALAND ARTISTS.
(teom: orn owt eon»ronxn.) LONDON*, November 21. Three Nc<v Zealand artists arc- exhibiting paintings in the Goupil Gallery Salon, which is cow open in Kcgent itrcct. Mr It. S. Hellaby has two imall oil paintings of Sussex landscapes. "Corn-cocks, 8u»stx," is u. typical harvest scene, with * background c£ English tree* and an old windmill on the akylinc. ''Near Ryo, Sussex," is a corner of the Komney Mar»h, with a winding river in the foreground and the picturesque foothills beyond. Miss Kuth Hollingswortb has two of har stiil life pictures on exhibition, both peculiarly choice work? of their kind. The on» is a group of luscious fruit of many varieties, with a Chinese bowl and blue Chineso idols in the centre. Tho smaller work, "A. Bowl of Flowers," is cameo-like in iw detail. Mr Raymond Mclnlyre has three of hi* on view. One, a. mere trifle, is an uninteresting group of apples. A second jr. the study of a young (rirl'a bead, done according to the methods of the modern school, and the third is an impression of Kensington Gardens. By balf-shuttin? one'a eyes or.c can &c? wbit the arttst eecs, but the whole painting could be copied fairly zccunUlf uv an inexpert pa-inter in less than fifteen minutes. Tbi3, cf c-cursc, does rot rneau. that ;i novire could create such a study. Mi?s Eleanor Hughes, the export in free st'idice, ha? a verv attractive water colour, which i; even better than what she uaiia.lv shows. Tire title, "Sky-pointms Tree*." i» enough to describe the subject. Her detail work of the network of leaflltss branches is exquisite, and even 'he background of diatant trcea is dor.e with ssiupuloui care.
