MOTOR-BUS COMPETITION.
TRAMWAY BOARD'S ACTION From tunc to time bus competition with tli© tramways has been considered, by the Christchui'ch Tramway Board, and finally the matter was referred co the Works and Traffic Committee for report. At> its mooting yesterday the committee submitted its report, which stated that the increasing itso of private motor-cars was undoubtedly affecting tramway traffic. Private- car owners picked up at tramway stops hundreds of their friends. Tho motor-bus so far competed only for special traffic such os racea, etc. " Although bus fares were hin-her. they received <1- substantial patronage first Imxxmjso of tiie 1101 dtv. and then lx>.causo of greater sr**d. Tlie trainee's speed was limited by a solicitous Government out of rt/traul for the safetv of pedestrian and motor traffic but the same restrictions were not applied to motor-lnises, the ilexil.ility of which, with high speed, increased accident risk.
