UNIVERSITIES & MEDICAL SCHOOLS. OUR 01W roa»«spoHT>*Kt.) LONDON, November 6. As in previous years, there arc again this year more New Zealand students at Cambridge th«in at Oxford. Jesus College, Cambridge, seems to lie the most popular - with men from the- Dominion, who this year number eight in residence. Of these four are in their third year: P. Hall (who is studying for the Ordinary Degree, Law. etc.), H. S. HGilmer (Medicine), J. L. Macfarlane (Ordinary Degree, Law, etc.), and is. Williams' (Theology Honours Course). Two in their second year are J., ri Hall (Medicine) and S. 11. Gardiner (History Honours). The two fiist year men are G. F. McHardy (Agriculture) and F. O'Rorke (English Honours). Next to Jesus College from point of view of numbers comes Trinity Hall, where there are five New Zealanders. Of these I. A. MeEw.in, third year, is taking the Ordinary Degree, Law. Four are in their first year, namely: W. A. Beattie (Law Tripos, Part II.). K. U. Broomfield and J. B. Elliot (Law Tripos Part I.), and w ItLevin (Agriculture). In Athletics MacEwan and Levin play Rugby, and both have been included in the University "A" team. Levin tooK part in the Freshmen's imuch. The other three are more interested in reiving. W. A. Beattie, who is a 13.A. and LL.B. (N.Z.). has been touring England and Scotland, and be -will study for Honours in' English Law next June. After that lie will probably return to New Zealand. At Emmanuel College, also, there ore five New Zealanders, namely: J. F. St. B. Barclay (Law). D. H. Black (Physics), N. M. Louisson (Economics), and two Freshmen: J. N. Peart (Mathematics) and H". E. W. Roberton (Medicine). At Trinity College there are four New Zealand men: N. T. Sinclair (Modern Languages), C. S. Hicks (Biochemistry). W. F. Pharazyn (Physics), and T. "V. Anson (Medicine). Gcnville and Caius is also represented by four men: H. Belshaw. A. J. llarrop, 11. Q. Nelson, sind S. N. Ziman. The only New Zealander .it prewmt at Christ's College, Cambridge, is J. R. Wilford (Divinity). St. John's College, also, has only one, Joseph Guy Kellock, who is in his third year. He is reading Lav/. The only New Zealand woman student at Cambridge appears to be Miss Lucy Granville Hogg, who is at Newnhani. This is her first year of residence and she is working for the -Historical Tripos. At Oxford. At.Oxford, Balliol College stands at the head of the list numerically as far as New Zealanders are concerned. At this college there are four, namely: J. A. Buchanan and K. R. Buchanan, the one taking Science and the other Law, entered in 1922; W. P. Morrell. who is talcing History, ivent up in 1923; ««d this year's new undergraduate is R. S. Aitken, who is taking Science. At St. John's College there are three, namely: G. G. Aitken, M. A. Young, and F. H. Courage. At Hertford College C P. K-. Bell (Cliristohurch) is still in residence, taking English Literature. At Brasenose there are no Freshmen from New Zealand this year, but D. P. Soannell, who entered in 1922, i 3 still in residence reading Law. A. E. Porritt (Wangaaiui) is still at Magdalen. At Oriel College is Geoffrey Clinton Gibbs (from Christ's College, New Zealand), who is reading Law. Merton has one New Zealander, J. F. Nelson (Christ's College) who is in residence, reading for the School of Agriculture. Now that E. S. Elworthy and A. H. Russell have gone down there do not seem to be any New Zealanders at Wadham College at present.
' The Medical Schdols. H. W. Sadlier (Nelson), who went to Emmanuel College, Cambridge, in 1919, is now in London, doing clinical work for hi? Medical Degree at St. George's Hospital. Three New Zeo.landers who are attending the London Hospital Medical College for post graduate work are J. Dreadon, C. M. F, Burnett, and W. M. Cotter. At Gfty's Hospital just. now*there are four medical students from New Zealand: P. Berry, E. H. J. Berrv, E. T. Clifton, and E. H. Roche, while 0. Skinner is working for his Dental Degree. E. H. J. Berry qualified last South for his M.R.C.S., and he Jias been appointed a Clinical Assistant at Guy's. E. T. Clifton, who is, as New Zealanders know, a very keen rowing man, has been appointed lion, secretary for the Rowing Club for the current year. He rowed in the hospital boat, which this year won the Inter-Hospital Senior Cnp and the London University Challenge Cup. E. H. Roche, who has been appointed a member of the Guy's Hospital Clubs' Union Council for the current year, is also secretary of the United Hospitals' Sailing Club. Mr Roche has done a good deal of yachting during his tion. At St. Thomas's Hospital Medical School there are two New Zenlanders: H. V. Coverdale, who studied 'Medicine at Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge, and E. S. S. Lucsis. They are both carrying out clinical work in Medicine, Surgery, and Midwifery. The only New Zealand woman medical student at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School, Paddington. at the present time is Miss C. M. Kingsmill. At Edinburgh. At Edinburgh the following are still working for their Medical Degrees: — lan B. Ewart, H. M. Shenkin. and A. T;. Young, who are all in their third year and are taking Pathology. Materia, Medica, Junior Medicine and Junior Surgery Lectures, and Hospital Work. Two second yer.r men are E. G. Gibba and L. R. Hetherington. both of whom are working at Anatomy and Physiology.
