TRAMWAY BOARD.
YESTERDAY'S MEETING, A meeting of the Christchurch Tramway Board was held yestejday. Present—Messrs H. Pearce {chairman), G. T. Booth, J. A. Fleshcr, A. S. Taylor, E. W. White, D. Sykea, W. J. Walter, and J. Wood. A letter was received from the Papanui Burgesses'- Association drawing attention to the danger to passengers and the general public of the Northcote road cars going l round the balloon loop in Papanui Memorial Square. The general manager, Mr F. Thompson, said a deputation from the Association had approached the Board in the matter, and it had been suggested that the danger would be obviated if the Northcote road cars stopped at the Post Office. It was decided to write the Association asing if Mr Thompson's . suggestion would meet the case. The Sumner Borough Council wrote asking permission to lay a four inch water pipe on the Sumner embankment. The Board decided to raise no obection to the proposal. The Canterbury Drivers' TTnion wrote calling the Board's attention to the stopping place at Leinster road. The letter stated that at some time there would be a serious accident at this spot unless some alteration were made, as the trams did not stop far enough from the end of the street to allow a sweep for drivers coming out of Leinster road. The TTnion had received a great number of complaints about the place, and trusted that Bome alteration would be made to remove what, at present, constituted a source of danger to drivers. The letter wa% referred to the Works and Traffic Committee. It was decided that the special order mad© on November I9th, 1924, authorising a loan of £12,000 be confirmed.
