ANGLING NOTES.
FEW CATCHES REPORTED. Prospects for holiday fishing seemed to be good last week, but in spite of the numbers of fish in the rivers results have been very disappointing. At the present time there appears to be little hope of anglers catching big bags over Christmas ajid New Year. Fish are plentiful enough in the Selwyn and the llakaia rivers, but have abundant food in the silveries »vithout attempting artificial bait. At the mouth of the Selwyn there has been an abnormally big run of silveries this season. The trout, as one angler said yesterday, are simply gorged with food The same angler said the run of silveries was tremendously hearv this year. Consequently catches of one or,two fish are the most tnat are reported. Further up the Selwyn better fishing is reported, and the trout are in splendid condition. The offers little attraction for the angler at the present time. A few herrings arc fhe only catches. '' We 'll get them directly, there's nothing surer." said an angler yesterday hopefully.
