PROGRESS OF SYDNEY BRIDGE.
The Sydney Harbour bridge will commence to take shape in actuality early in the Nov,' lear. The first part to appear will be the tower at Dawes Point, which it is hoped then to commence. It will bo an imposing structure, from which tho arched span will grow out to meet similar development on tho opposito side. A feature of tho works wluch are to be erected by the contractors, Messrs Dornian. Long and Co., at Milsou's Point, will be that ihcre are to be no ugly smokestacks to mar toe landscape, 'aJid spread a dinf;y costing upou their surrounding?. Practically all tho machinery will be driven by electricity. Tho works will be enormously valuable when they have been completed. Tho Government's reply to persistent, questions whether the land which they occupy will be evacuated when the bridge is built is that there is nothing jii tho contract to permit, tbo firm to continue in occupation longer tliau the stated term necessary for tho construction of the bridge.
