NATIONAL BANK OF N.Z.

NEW WELLINGTON MANAGER. (•PXCIiL TO "THE PR18B.") WELLINGTON, December 21. Mr It. Sinclair Thompson hag been appointed Wellington manager of the National Bank of New Zealand, in place of Mr J. Gibson Stott, who retires after lengthy service at the end of the year, and will travel with his daughters on the Continent and in the Mother Country before settling in Auckland.

Mr Sinclair Thompson joined the bank in Dunedin 25 years ago, and has been in the Wellington offico for thirteen years. He was for seven years sub-accountant, and received the appointment of accountant in July, 1921. The new Wellington manager saw three years of active service in the New Zealand Bifle Brigade during the war, ending with the rank of captain. He will take up his new duties at the beginning of the New Year. At the week-end Mr Stott, who is severing the connexion with the bank, was asked to meet between fifty and sixty of the Bank's Wellington customers, who were desirous of wishing him farewell. It was a very pleasant surprise to Mr Stott to find himself the recipient of two cheques, one to buy for himself a memento that would always remind him of the kindly appreciation of customers who had had dealings with him in the Bank, and the other to be used to buy a motor-car or for any other purpose he liked. The Hon. Thomas Hislop, M.L.C., who acted as chairman, voiced the opinion of all present in expressing appreciation of Mr Stott's ability as a banker of long experience and his never-failing courtesy to all with whom ho came in contact. Mr Myers, ex-president of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce, spoke in a similar strain and added that every one who had been approached had most gladlv contributed to the presentation. Indeed, added Mr Myers, had they had more time they could have got three or four times as much as they had gathered to show their appreciation of the retiring manager. Mr Stott, who was very much surprised, made a feeling reply for the kindly and generous manner in which their appreciation of his services had beeu expressed.
