TAHU CUP TOURNAMENT The Tah'i Cup tournament was concluded on the Christchurch Polo Club's grounds on Saturday. The weather was fine, and the field in excellent order. There was a good attendance of spectators, ajid somo fine gjLincs "were witnessed. The final between Christchurch nr.d Amuri provided one of the beat games seen on the prround for years. It was full of incident, and tho standard of play was high throughout. At the conclusion of the tournament Mr Geo. Gould, president of the Christchurch Club, congratulated tho -winners, and Mrs Gould presented , the cup t° the oaptain of tho winning Amuri team (Mr . Roger G-oukf). Cheei's were given for the winners and for lira Gould. Christchnrch v. Pareora. The teams were: Christohurch (blue), handicap 2 gcols—G. Grigg 1, 0. Huttdu 2, Tahu Rhodes 3, B. B. Wood 4. Pareora (green), scratch—W. H. Orbell 1, IL Elworthy 2, C. Miller 3, A. Elworthy 4. Dr. "W. Fox was referee. Miller scored soon alter the opening, making the score Christ-church 2, Pareora 1. From'a scramble in front of the goal, Miller shot successfully: Christchurch 7, Pareora 3. At the opening of the final chukka Pareora rushed the ball doWn, and H. Elworthy scored. Pareora continued to press until Wood got away with a strong drive. He lost the ball, but it w?3_ carried on and H. Elworthy ooored: Christchurch 7, Pareora 4. Pnroora again pressed, but Wood placed ChmtchuTch on the offensive with a fine run, and Hutton followed up to score: Christchurch 8, Pareora 4. A. Elworthy, from a free hit, carried play to tiro goal, where the ball struck a pony. Miller carried the ball on, and _ scored, tho t;Mne ending in a win for Christchurch by 8 goals , to 5.' Amuri v. Christchurcli. The team 3 were: Amuri (yellow), handicap three goals—C. Macfarlane 1, C. Deans 2, E. B. Davison .3, Li. Gould 4. Christchurch. (blue), handicap two goals— G. Grigg 1, G. Hutton 2, Tijhu Rhodes 3, B. B. Wood 4. Dr.W. Fox was referee. Amuri were first aggressive, and tarried 1 the hail to tho goal, where Davison had a.n unsuccessful shot. Grigg was prominent in a return rush, but Amuri brought the ball back to tho Christchurch end, where thero were several frcitless attempts on goalChristchurch again attacked, and Hutton made a fine run down the outside. Christchurch rushed tl % Amuri goal, and Wood scored with a batik-handed shot: Christchurch 4, Amuri 4. Amuri had a free hit, which Hutton stopped and carried on. Christchurch kept up the pressure, nnd after a meloe in the Amuri quarter, Hutton got away with a clear goal before him, and scored: Christchurch 5, Amuri 4.' Davison was prominent in an Amuri attack, 4 but his final of thres' shots hit tho po3t. Macfarlane was in close attendance, and he ■ put the hall through. Amuri 5, Christchurch ' 5. After a spell on defence, Amuri attacked strongly, but tho ball was overriden by both teams right in front of the Christchuroh goal. Coming back from his own half, Davison gathered the hall, and with a brilliant Bhot sent the ball into the goal from just inside half-way, making tho sooro: Amuri 6, Christchurch 5. The third chukka opened somewhat sensationally. Amuri got right down on the Christchurch goal, «tnd in a melee Gould's horse fell, anil Wood's pony was brought down also. No one was hurt. On resuming, Christchurch got away, and Hutton scored. Immediately after changing ends, Christchurch repeated tha performance, Hutton again scoring: Christchurch 7, Amuri 6. Deans then scored for Amuri, making the score 7 all. Deans carried the ball through his own goal, thus adding a point' to' .the Christchurch score: Christchurch 8, Amuri 7. From a free hit for carry aver, Davison sent the ball through the opposing team and scored: Amuri 8, Christchuroh. 8. With the score all square', both teams made the (pace in the final chukka a cracker. The play wis tight and interesting. Amuri : being more prominent on attack. With only two minutes to go the play was still even, until Amuri got down on the Christchurch gottl in a hunch and Macfarlane scored: Amuri 9, Christchurch 8. On the -resumption Amuri again charged down on their opponents, and Macfarlane shot a good goal, the final match of the tournament ending: Amuri 10, Christchurch 8.
