BOROUGH COUNCILS.
RANGIORA. The Rangiora Borough Council met on Thursday night. Present: The Mayor (Mr W. A. Bowse), and Crs. C. J. Jennings, W. It. Murray, W. R. Pike, C. R. Thwaites, C. S. Ayem, W. C. Prosser, J. Lindon, R. Mcintosh, and W. R. Borland. The Gas Manager reported that he had received advice from Mr Parker that he would bo able to reset the retorts at the end of March. It was resolved that Mr Parker be asked to state the date on which ho could start the work. The Medical Officer of Health wrote with reference to a compulsory refuse removal system within the borough, and forwarded a copy of the regulations residing the prevention of contamination in food manufacture. It waa decided that Dr. Telford be invited to meet the Council to discuss the question. The 'Waimakarirl Harbour Board yrote with reference to the Council's quota towards liquidating the debt incurred through the Commission recently held.' The Council's indebtedness was £7l. It was decided that £33 of the amount be psiri immediately. The Ashley County Council applied for a giant of £l2 10s towards the cost of protective works at the Ashley bridge. It was agreed to vote the amount. . Messrs H. Mat3on and Co. wrote advising that a start had been made with the erection of a boundary fence between their property and the Council's reserve on the isorth belt. . , It was agreed 4hat £Z 10s to paid to ilr I\ Horrell, being half cost of a dividing fence between Victoria Park and his proplana of a subdivision of land owned by Messrs K.eir and Thompson, in Good street, were approved. It was decided to accept the offer or_ilr •Mawson to give £35 in lieu of the Council taking a strip of land necessary for Btreet widening purposes. Mr G. Walla' offer of £35 for land for street widening was accepted, the Council to re-erect the fence, on the boundary line. The Town Manager reported that the revenue for the month in the gas department was £298 I6s 4d, as against £287 7s 5d for the same period last year. The revenue lor the eight months of the year exceeded the expenditure by £461 Ha lid. The revenue fiom the electric department for the month was £197 10s, as compared with £143 78 2d for the same period last year. Two., new consumers had been connected, and one extension made during the month. Permits for buildings valued at "£475 had been granted. Thirty-six ratepayers had appHed lor their land to be brought under the Borough Farm Lands Rating Act. In accordance with notice given, Cr. Thwaites moved: ''That this Council abolish the office of town manager throe months from date and appoint a town clerk.'* The motion was seconded by Cr. Jennings. In accordance with notice given, Cr. Proeaet moved: "'That . this Council has every confidence in the town manager system is Rangiora. and oonsiders that to abolish - it' would be a retrograde step, but subsequently withdrew his, motion. An ameDdmont moved by Cr. Ayers: "That we call the present town manager the towa clerk" waa carried. _
