GENERAL. The vital statistics for tj»e month of November, with those of the corresponding month of last year in parentheses, are as follows: —Births 24 (25), deaths 16 (10), marriages 7 (7). During the week-end some fair catches were obtained by fishermen T who visited | Hakatere, and trout as heavy-as 101b I were secured. The gross receipts of the St. | Stephen's ga'a. held on Saturday in the I Domain, reached £ 303, and from this amount it is expected that in the vicinity of £.230 will bo devoted to the church fund after all expenses are paid. A fire occurred at Greenstreet yesterday morning, when the home of Mr W. Thompson was completely destroyed. | Apparently the fire started in one of the front rooms, and, fanned by a strong nor'-west wind, quickly enveloped the building. Mr Thompson was working in the river-bed close by, and Mrs Thompson managed to get tho children to a place of safety. Practically nothing w:js saved. The Ashburton Motor-Cycle Club held a run to Lake Coleridge during the week-end, when fifteen riders made the trip. Although some very bad roads were encountered, the outing proved thoroughly enjoyable. The party visited the intake, and were afterwards shown through the power-house.
