OBITUARY.

DUKE OF BEAUFORT. (BI CiBLE—PBESS ASSOCIATION—COPTntnjyr) (RE'JTER's TEUEGRA.IIS.) LONDON, November 27. The death is announced of the Duko of Beaufort. [The ninth Duke of Beaufort—as a barony the title goes back to 1506 was 77 years old. Ho was formerly a captain in the Eoyal Horse Guards, and succeeded his father in 1899. He owned about 52,000 acres, and is succeeded by his son, the Marquess of Worcester. The new Thi'ke, who was born in 19CO, married, a year -ago, Ladv Mary Cambridge (born 1897), a niece of Queen. Mary, her father (the Marquess of Cambridge, better known before the war as Duke of Teek) being a brother of her Majesty.]

REV. PETER MILNE. (PMSS ASSOCIATIOK TBLXMUXB.) DUNEDIN. November 28. News has been received of the death of the Rev. Peter Milne, of Nguna, Efate, New Hebrides. He and his wifesettled in Nguna in 1870. Three* members of the family are missionaries.

DR. N. S. WHITTON. Dr. Noel Stuart "vVhitton died at his late residence, Clyde road, Fendalton yesterday, after an illness of ten days duration. He was horn in Oamaru on December 9th, 1890, and educated at Waitaki High School, subsequently attending Otago University, where ho took the degrees of M.B. Ch.B. in February, 1915. He spent a few months as House Surgeon at Hamilton Hospital, and then went to England, where he joined the Royal Army Medical Corps as captain. In October of the same year he went to Franco ag regimental surgeon to tho 9th Sussex Regiment. ' He' saw much active serviee, and gained tho Military Cross, being twice mentioned in despatches. Subsequently ho served in Mesopotamia and Palestine. He returned to this country at the conclusion of peace, and joined the staff of the Christchurch Hospital as House Burgeon, afterwards being assistant surgeon, which post lie held at the time of his death. He leaves a widow and one son.
