The departure for the Argentine about a'.fortnight ago of :i recent visitor to Auckland, from the Islands, has left a number of residents lamenting. ■ The visitor was a young man of good education, and obtained temporary employment on a. commission ironsaction, in which the young man acted as the agent for a Papakura resident in a sale of a motor-car. Later a complaint was made to ; the police, regarding his part in the transaction, but unfortunately, the/complaint came too late for the police-.,t0- take- effective action, ; the:'igent' having' alieady: sailed from Wellington for South Ame'rica.- . ; It ia stated that .the ; young. manj having obtained i the "car for- sale, -took it to a garage and left it-with-the-pro 1 , prietor to sell. On the strength of this he purchased at the garage a new car, arranging with the vendor that the.latter should retain the proceeds .of the .sale of the old car as a deposit for the purchase of the new one: ■■ Subsequently the agent called at the garage and informed the proprietor that ho had foiind a purchaser-for the old car,- : and obtained permission to take' it away ; to 'allow the intending buyer to inspect' it. The agent thus obtained possession of two motor : cars without having paid for either.
