CANTERBURY JOCKEY CLUB.

CANTERBURY CUP AND OAKS DAY.

Tlie card for the third day of the Canterbury Jockey Club's Metropolitan Meeting to-day contains material for a highly interesting day's racing. The most interesting events are the New Zealand Oaks Stakes, for which fourteen three-year-old fillies are engaged, and the Canterbury Cup, the premier long-distance weight-for-age race in the Dominion. In the Oaks Stakes there is nothing that could be considered really high-class, but three of the field, Dazzling Light, Rawene, and Starmist, filled the places in the Spring Plate on Saturday. Monoxide was a winner on .Saturday who may again bo prominent to-day, and other useful fillies in Lava, Ilka, Clarinda, Lake -Urn, and Retrospect will assist in making a better poal than usual for the fillies' classic. Though the Canterbury Cup lias only drawn four acceptors, the race should be a particularly interesting one. That fine galloper Loughrea will be making his first appearance at Riccarton in this race, and the inclusion in the field of the winner and the run-ner-up in the New Zealand Cup and the Derby winner will make for an excellent contest. Cerberus, Shirley, Bumptious, Suggestion, En Route, and Giantkiller figure in other events on the day's card, and if started, will not go out at very long prices. Racing will commence at 12.1 p.m. with the Port Cooper Hurdle Handicap, and' the usuaj train and tram services will be in commission.
