MAIL DELIVERY.

TO THE EDITOR OF "THE FRE6S." Sir,—The postal authorities demand letter-boxes to be erected on the gates of householders in the city. At present the stipulated distance is twenty yards from the road line. The householder must put up a, box or havo no.delivery at the house of. mail. This is oily the thin, end of, the wedge. It will not be twenty yards but eventually tho road line the postman will deliver letters on. This being the intention of tho Postal Department, is it not possible that" the postal authorities could meet tho public by making a. charge for exeessivo distance- traversed bv the postman delivering the mail to these houses? It costs 30s per year for a, postal box in the City P.O. Why not. charge 30s per year for' delivery 'to the private house?— Yours, etc., HOUSEJIOLDEB.
