Air Vice-Admiral Sir G. Salmqnd has been annointed to the new position nf Air Commander-in-Chief, Great Britain. Mr Frank Lambeth has heen appointed printer of the Dunedin "Evening Star" in succession to the late Mr Gilbert Buchanan. Messrs X. L. A. Mackenzie (Melbourne) and F. I. Read (Auckland) are among the week-end arrivals at the Clarendon Hotel. Cable advice has been received that Dr. Kenneth J. L. Scott, formerly house surgeon at the "Wellington Hospital, has passed the examination admitting him to- membership of the. Royal College of Physicians, London. The many friends of Mr 3. A. Boswell, manager of the Christchurch branch of the Westport Coal Company, who has heen ill for srmie weeks, will be sorry to hear that his illness has taken a serious turn, and his condition is causing his relatives much anxiety. At last week's meeting of the Southland County Council. Mr G. It. Milward, of Dunedin, was appointed assistant engineer. For the past eight years Mr Mil ward has been" with the engineer for the Taieri County' and Taieri River Trust. Mr Milward, who is a member of the Kaikorai Band, is a very fine cornet player. Mr C. Collins, Wellington City Treasurer, has been granted three months' leave of absence as from Tuesday next. He intends to visit Sydney and Melbourne on a health recruiting trip. During his absence from Wellington, Mr 3. Ames, jun., will act asi City Treasurer. The Right Reverend ' Monsignor Mahoney, P.A., V.F., of Onehunga, has been appointed a Protonotary Apostolic. Monsignor Mahoney is the first person born in New Zealand to be ordained to the Catholic priesthood. He is also the first ecclesiastic in the Do- , minion to be raised to the rank of Protonotary Apostolic. Monsignor Mahoney was appointed to his present charge at Onehunga in 1906. The Rev. T. Gordon Robertson, 8.A., chairman-elect of the Congregational Union of New South Wales, is a New Zealander, who has become an outstanding figure in Australian Church life. He is a son of the ?ate Rev. Joseph Robertson, who was for some years pastor of the Beresford street, Congregational Church, Auckland, and was chairman of the Congregational Union of New Zealand. Tho Rev. T. Gordon Robertson was born in Auckland. A gathering of those interested in the Association football code met at Wellington last week, when a presenta- • tion was made by Mr H. Mayer, chairman of the New -Zealand Football Association, to Mr B. L. Salmon. The orcasion was the retirement of Mr Salmon from the position of secretary of the New Zealand Association, a position he lias held with credit over a number of years. Very hearty appreciation was expressed of the past services of Mr ►Salmon. The presentation took the form a a cheque-subscribed'to by all the branches in New Zealand. Mr Sutcliffe subsequently obtained his degree as B.Sn., and joined the staff of the Wnnganui Technical College, and since February, 1922, lias held the position of assistant master at the Wanganui Collegiate School.
