STEAMER IN A GALE. SEAMAN LOST OVERBOARD. (PKISS ASSOCIATION TILXGSAM.) WANCANUI. November 1. Advice has been received by. the agents here that the Port Caroline encountered a heavy gale last night' on'the way. to Wangaiiui', and a seaman was washed overboard. A boat put out to the rescue, but was unsuccessful, and after terrible buffeting took three hours to get back to tho ship. The.Port Caroline is due here this afternoon. VOLUMNIA HOLD-UP. ADIiLSIDE-, November 1. Summonses have been issued by the master of the vessel Volumnia upon tho secretary of the Fremantle branch of tho Seamen's Union and 23 members of the crew.
