The Philosophical Institute of Canterbury will meet on Wednesday night at the Biological Laboratory, Canterbury College, and the following papers will be read: —"The Determination of Word Rhythm," Dr. 11. Valuable proof of the efficacy, from the advertising point of view, of NewZealand's display at the Empire Exhibition at Wembley is given in a letter received by a- Christehurch resident, from a relative who is principal of a private school for girls in England. The writer states that shortly after the pupils had visited Wembley they were given as the subject of a composition, "Meat in Season." One of the pupils misheard the title, and proceeded to write at great, length on "Meat from New Zealand."

"When a medical witness was giving evidence before the Hospital Enquiry at Palmerston 2Corth this week, a question was asked as to whether he had ever refused a certificate of admission to a public hospital when liis patient was well able to pay for private hospital treatment, ilis reply was that lie had done so in some cases, and instanced one in which a lady was contemplating a trip to Australia, and wanted a child operated on before she wont.
