NEW GRADING LIST ISSUED. (PBBS3 ASSOCIATION lILIGRAJi.) WELLINGTON, October 14. Tlie new Public Service grading list was issued to-day. Over eight thousand officers are affected by it. The Commissioner and his assistants for six months were visiting departments all over the Dominion, obtaining first-hand information and having personal interviews with the officers affected. The new scheuuie of salaries conforms to that recently published for the Post and Telegraph Department. An attempt has been made to bring salaries into line with the relative salaries paid by private employers. With regard to the lower grades the maximum salary of the Jowest is £295 per annum, which is attained in the eleventh year. This remains unaltered. In the higher grades, payment is not on a parity with outside rates, and while it is not expected to be completely adjusted, such officers, it. in stated, still look forward to reasonable improvement of status. Li tho professional division then? are six classes, the lowest ranging from £SO to £2lO, and the highest from £6lo to £/10. In the clerical division there are seven classes, the lowest having three sections. Salaries begin at £SO and range to £29-3. The maximum in any class ia £765.
