THE PRESBYTERY.
YESTERDAY'S BUSINESS. The C'hrislcliurch Presbytery sat yesterday to deal with business which had been held over from Monday. "The Moderator (Itev. J. V. Jacobson) presided. Leavo cf absence was granted the Rev. TV. J. l'oungson to enable him to visit Australia, and it wis decided not 1o r-'Mit his request to be relieved of the moderatorship of Scargill. The general and financial ytaUV.ics for 1054 for the charges in tho Presbytery were submitted. The totals were as follows, the figures for 1923 being shown in parentheses:—Sumbcr of churches IS MS;; other meeting places 35 (61); persons under pastoral care 13,1C5 (13,775); attendance at public worship 6138 (C6CS); new members V.hi (180): church membership 37411 (3681); ministerial stipend £SSII (£&U&); manses 'M (35); ordinary revenue £13,&>9 (£13,635). The charge of the central ridges has been omitted from the district, which accounts for the difference in the number of preaching places and the people under pastoral care. In the central ridges thero are 30 preaching places, 1500 people under pastora! care, and an attendance at public worship oi 450.
Tho report was adopted. At Monday's sitting of the Presbytery, Presuyterial certificates of ability were granted to Messrs TV. C. Comber, St. Andrews, and D. K. Boyd, Papanui.
