Messrs Henley and McMillan spoke m favour oi newspaper advertising, the former pointing- out that 2. committee had been set. up to attend to the matter of advertising 1 , but that nothing' had apparently been done. It was estimated that a display at the Show could not be made by the Board at a lower cost than £SO. An electrical nnu which had been considering' the matter of making a display had enquired whether current could be supplied by the Board at the Show Ground. The matter was referred to the chairman asd engineer to consider. Tenders for tho erupply of poles -were dealt with. Upon the motion of Messrs Henley and llaginness, it ra decided to change the ninio of the Board to the "Mid-Canterbury Power Board," subject to tho approval of the Minister. Tho matter was discussed at last month's meeting;, when it wi" pointed out that an alteration was advisable since Paparua. had been added to the district. It was then decided to hold it over for a, month so that members could consider the question of & suitable name. It was pointed out by the mover and seconder of the motion that in the event of other areas being added to the district no further alteration of name would ba necessary. Mr Free mentioned that a resident of the district had complained that because ha tad not- purchased a motor from the Board, the engineer would not connect his place with the mains. The engineer made an explanation concerning the case. He had quoted for the supply of a motor and the installing of it, but tho farmer concerned had subsequently bought a motor elsewhere and wanted tho Board to do the installing. Ho had not rafusau to do tho worl:, but had suggested that the farmer should get the firm supplying the motor to install it, when the Board would promptly make the connexion with it* mains. It was agreed, after farther discussion, that 'he engineer should take the matter up with the fanner concerned with a view to arriving at a settlement. Mr Henley said that the Board should advertise its business and then prospective consumers would know exactly what it was prepared to do. ... , , ~ The following resolution, moved by Air Free and seconded by Mr Simpson, was carried t "That the Board is prepared to supply and install motors, but that where motors and other appliances are purchasfd j from outside firms the Board cannot undfirtako the installation." • ! A report from the Paparua Reticulation Committee was considered and adopted, it stated, inter alia, that tho Public Works Department was anxious to give supply to the Board *t Islington, instead of at Barter's road, and was also anxious to 1 cell the Paparua Prison extension. On , the figures supplied this line did not appear to be a payable one, *>_?t it was eventually decided to offer tie P.W.D. tho sum of £1452 0s 22 for the H.T. linjes And enb-etatioM necessary, provided tho Department first obtained A fresh, agreement with the Prisons Department for an increased sum for the current supplied to the prison, vis., £350 per annum. The Department had offered to put the necessary lino into Mr W. Cleg/s premises at ® cost of £4OO, the Board to pwmde the necessary wire and poles. Reporta from the engineer and eccretary ■were considered and adopted. - MALVERN. It the last meeting of the Malvern. Eleotric Power Board, Mr Judd presided. It wos reported that the gum-felling contact at Muiholland'e was finished, the poles being all in stack. As a precaution against splitting, it was arranged to bind the tops of the poles with wire, and to paint them with wood preservative. The contiact in Finlay's plantation was not quite bo far advanced, but was progressing favourably. The inspector reported that his canvass for guarantees was highly successful, and he hoped to finish Glentunnel and Hororata districts in about a week, when he would turn his attention to the Darfield area. The tenders for tho remaining. timber in the Board's plantation wero unsuitable, and were not accepted, but the "Works Committee wore of opinion that they could arrange to get tho work done. They will arrange to cut about ten thousand stakes and the balance in firewood, and a mill will bo mstalled to cut cross arms from the milling Instructions were given to write to tlio Railway Department with reference to lighting the Coolgato railway station, as the VThiUxilifts line was outside tho Ra.ilway Department's electric area, also to writo to tho Chief Postmaster, County Council, and other public departments likely to require electric light.
