At a meeting of the Ashburton Presbytery, held yesterday, the Moderator, the liev. E. Dickie, presided. The Moderator welcomed the Kev. A. G. Irvine as a member of tho Presbytery. ,^ Mr "\V. It. Eosc was nominated as Moderator of the General Assembly. The Eevp. A. G. Irvine', A. 8. Morrison, B. Dickie, and E. McCully were appointed delegates to tho Assembly. The Kev. A. G. Irvine was appointed to represent the Presbytery on the Commissions and Kecords Committee, and the Rev. A. S. Morrison on the .Standing Committee at tho Assembly. A visitation was made to tho "SVakanui Charge bv a commission, consisting of the Revs.' A. G. Irvine and A. S. Morrison. A verv satisfactory report upon the work of Mr J. Kirk was brought down. The Presbytery expressed its pleasure at the work being carried out by the missioncr in charge (Mr ,T. Kirk)l The Rev. W. Marshall also expressed pleasure at the enthusiastic interest Miss M. Wilson had taken in the welfare of the charge'. A very satisfactory report upon the work of"the Hinds chargo was presented and the Presbytery congratulated the Rev R. McCullv and the session managers upon the highly satisfactory state of the charge, and especially commended the former upon the keen interest he had taken in the welfare ot tho congregation. The statistics showed that there' were 13 churches in the Presbytery and 21 preaching places and .'4270 persons under pastoral care. There was a decrease of 24 in the membership, and an increase of 150 in the pastoral care There was an increase in the amount raised for the schemes of the churches of £ rt oS, and an increase in the ordinary revenue of £404. Ministerial stipends amounted to £2345 The ordinary income amounted to £3/9S, and the total revenue to £5234. It was unanimously decided to reQuost Mr J. Kirk to remain in the Wakanui charge for another twelve months. A favourable report upon the Dia/ mon.l Jubilee of the Christchurcu Presbvtcrv was submitted by the Kei *. A. S, Morrison and AV. MarshallTho Rev- W. Marshall was appointed to represent the Presbytery at the laying of the foundation stone of the new Sunday School, and the Rev. R, McCullv "was appointed to represent it at the 'jubilee social in the evening. The Presbvtcrv placed on record it 3 appreciation'of the work done by the Kev. J. Johnston in the MayJleld parish.
