CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.
MR W. MA CHIN* ELECTED PRESIDENT. A special general meeting of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce was held yesterday to elect a president and rice-president, consequent upon the retirement of Mr Stronach Peterson as president. Mr Patereon presided. Mr Paterson said that the only nominations were those of Mr W. Machin as president, nnd Mr Norton Francis as vice-president, and lie declared those gentlemen duly elected. Mr Machin returned thanks and said that he would bespeak for himself the indulgence and support of members during the coming year. He haxi looked forward to serving for a year as. iMr Paterson's colleague and second in command. There would be another occasion for them to give expression to their high regard for Mr Paterson, hut the j-p?aker would move a formal motion of thanks to Mr Paterson for his past services to the Chamber. Mr E. 11. Wyles seconded the motion, •which was carried unanimously. Mr Paterson briefly responded. A letter was read from Mr Norton Francis apologising for unavoidable absence and tliauking members for his nomination. The election of Mr J. A. Frostick as a life member was confirmed.
