PERSONAL. Mr Geo. Kelly, county clerk, ha? made a good recovery from an illness extending over a year, and will resume his duties on Monday. General News. A sale of work consisting of home delicacies and produce was conducted on the gTeen on the corner of Eist and Tancred streets by the Wakanui P.W.M.U. yesterday afternoon. The final meeting of the Ashburton Football Association was held on Thursday evening, when Mr A. Amo? presided. The chairman complimented the club upon the satisfactory manner in which the recent fivc-a-aide tournament had been staged, and expressed gratification at the small credit balance. A donation of £1 was made to the Wanderers Club for the use of its ground?. It was resolved to affiliate with the South Canterbury Association. Cricket. Owing to the weather conditions last Saturday, the Ashburton Cricket Association had to postpone its opening match until to-d-jy. A trial match between A and 13 teams will be commenced on the oval at 2 p.m. Two of the club's officers have offered to provide afternoon tea, and everything points to a successful opening." The wind-up of a series of enjoyable dauces under tho auspices of the Ashburton Technical School Old Pupils' Club was held in the form of a plain and fancy dress ball in tho Orange Hall cu Thursday evening. The hall was tastefully dec-orated, and there were about 70 couples present. Music was supplied by X)aybourn's Jazz Band. Miniature Shooting. At the weekly shoot of the "Willowby Miniature Riilc Club, the sixth trophy, presented by Mr H. Ingram, was won by C. Smith, after tieing with B. Broomfield, W. Tate, and T. Mackay. The liotty button was won by T. Mackay after tieing with B. Broomfield-and W. Tate. Some of the best scores were: T. Mackay, B. Broomfield, "W. Tate, 35; L. Pratlcy, F. Greenall, H. Mitchell, 33; D. Mackay, 32; L. Smith, IX. White, C. Smith, 31; J. Frampton, A, Pratley, 30.
