INCREASED INTEREST IN CLASSES. Eefej-ence to the increased interest shown in technical classes wis made by tie chairman (Mr C. H. Opie) at. last night's meeting of the Technical College Boaj-d of Governors. "The Minister's report on Technical education shows that technical classes in New Zealand were attended in 1923 by £OO more individuals than in 1922, representing an increase of about G per cent./' said Mr Opie. "Considerable restrictions were pia-cocl by the Department on the formation of small classes when there was urgent need for economy, and from these restrictions the country districts particularly are only now recovering*. ' Tho enrolments in Technical High Schools e.lso Showed 'an increase of about 850. individuals, or approximately 20 per cent. The enrolments at technical classes (not including the numbers of technical High School pupils) at some of the leading schools were as follows:—Christchurch 1751, Wellington 1321, Dunedin 1170, Auckland 9*is, Palmerston North 742, Christchurch School of Art 654, Invercargill 563."
