SUNDAY SCHOOL ANNIVERSARY.
Amongat the earliest, of tie early city insti'tutioiis is the Durham street Methodist Sunday School. Many prominent citizens can claim its influence in tho days when it was th'o .city contre,'not. only for religious education, but also secular. This was before tKo days .of the State educational system. It is: nearly three-quarters of a century—to be. exact, ,ecventy-ono years—since the school oi>ened, and to. celebrate the occasion to-morrow special, services are being held. • Old scholars; sorno whose yeaxs of life are longer than they care to name, will be -present. The old school still holds their affection and charm, and at the annual anniversary they delight to come and renew old ■ associations. The scholars of yesterday a.nd to.day harmonise in a never to be forgotten reunion. 111 fact, Durham street, being the Mother Church of Christchurch Methodism, make 3 tho old church a natural home ' where the Methodists of earlier days love to gather and .hear tbe children ci a new generation sing. The preach ore for the day are —11 a..m., the Rev. P. R. Parw; 2.45 p.m., Ber. b. J. perron; 6.30 p.m., Rev. W. Arthur Hay The scholars have been specially trained by Mr Ernest Firth, F.R.C.O. and the , music, cbosen this year is specialy fine. A number of the scholars will' give individual items. The celebrations will be coßrWj on Thursday evening, when. ' the wiil provide an entertainment, of and elocutionarv items, character sketcbe , e+c in the Durham street schoolroom.
