FIRES.
• A KAIAPOI OUTBREAK. "Ty Coed," a twelve-roomed twostorey residence in Puller street, Kxiapoi, was totally destroyed by fire between 1. and 2 a.m. yesterday. "Ty Coed" was formerly the residence of the late Mr Richard Evans, and was bought by the Kaiapoi .Woollen Company for use as a mcn!s hostel. It was partly furnished, but had .been unoccupied for some months. The property had recently been advertised for saio by public auction: The fire was first noticed by Mr P. Thome, a resident ir the vicinity, who gave the'alarm. 'TTh brigade turned out promptly, but were badly handicapped through lack of water. It is supposed the fire started in a room on tjbe ground floor on the west side of the house which was used as a scullery, the cause being unknown. The iusurances were £I2OO on the house in the New Zealand Insurant Company, and £3OO on the furniture in the Boval Exchange office.
