The Legislative Council negatived the Marriage Amendment Bill by 29 votes to 27, after a warm debate over the Nc Temcro clause, and the clause proposing to validate marriage with a deceased wife's sister. The debate was marked by a repetition of much-usad argument?, and wag strongly permeated by charge? of agetarianism and interference with religions liberty. Xt is rumoured the Grovernment snay appoint a new biitch of Councillor*) to ensure the passage of the Bill.
