In accordance.with the policy of tli<» N Government to push on -with the link-ing-up of the remoter islands in the ,Cook group by radio, a'station at Niue has now been opened for traffic. This is the third of the Cook Islands to be connected with wireless during the past four months, Aitutaki having been connected up in June, and Mangaia in August. The Resident Commissioner at Niue to-day forwarded the following radio message to the Hon. Sir Maui Pomare (Minister in charge of the Cook Islands): —Radio opened for traffic todav. The people desire to thank New - Zealand for ending the long isolation. —Morris. Sir Maui Pomare replied as follows: —Resident Commissioner, Niue,—>De-" lighted. New Zealand shares with you in the feeling of satisfaction that Xiue's isolation is ended, and the out- • post is now linked up with the outside world. I feel sure that radio augurs well for the future prosperity of Niue. Please accept and convey to the members of the Island Council greetings from myself Snd the Department. . Kia ora.—M. Pomare.
