—: —• Charles Lazell, an octogenarian and formerly chief warden in Wandsworth gaol, having been haunted lately in bis dreams by an execution he witnessed, committed suicide at Asbford (Middlesex) in a manner resembling a scaffold scene. He attached a rope to the roof of a shed near his house, mounted steps, tied the nooee round his neck, and jumped through an open trapdoor. At the inquest on the victims of the Under cliffe (N-S.W.) tragedy, in which Mrs McGrill cut the throats of her eight-months-old daughter and herself, a verdict was returned that the mother killed her child and herself while in a state of insanity. The husband . gave evidence that their married life was happy, and they had no financial or other worries, but his wife had been depressed for 6ome time prior to the occurrence. A tragedy occurred at Bondi (Sydney) late last night. A man, supposed to be named Rollin, visited a flat and went to the room of a woman boarder. When, she opened the door~he shot her in the thigh, although the injuries are 'not serious. The man then went outside i and shot himself dead. Details are not I available.
