Ashburton Magistrate's Court to-day on account of the Spring races. • Basket ball teams from Temuka will play matches against teams representing the Ashburton Borough School at Ashburton to-morrow. A flannel dance under the auspices of the St. Stephen's Cricket Club, was held in the St. Stephen's Schoolroom on Wednesday evening. There was a fair attendance, and • the music was supplied by Miss I*. Ibcll's Jazz Band. Tinwald Town Board. The .bieriDial election of members of t-bc-Tinwald Town Board w;js held at Ticwald on Wednesday, '"•hen the results were as follows: 11. B. Millichamp 86. W. Bryant SI, W. H. Bell 7S, J. Gudsell 77, Benjamin Jills 73, A. B. Simpson 25, H. W. Carpendale 2-1. As there were only five members required, the first five were duly elected.
Drawing Room Afternoon. In connexion with the visit to Ashburton of Miss Enshatv, the organiser of the W.C.T.U., Mrs W. Oakley gave a drawing room afternoon yesterday at her residence, West Belt. There was quite a large gathering of members of the W.C.T.U., and Mrs W. Robinson presided. Addresses were given by Miss Enshaw and Mr W. R. Mackesy (district organiser of the No License Council). Afternoon tea was dispensed. Four new members were elected. Musical items were given by Misses B. Oakley, Garder, and Mrs W. R. Mackesy, while Mrs A. Williams played the pianoforte solos and the accompaniments.
