A find that may have some connexion with,a tragedy of the sea was made one day iast week by a youth named Jack Eowntree, of 5 Allen street, Kiccartou. With his father, he was walking along the beach, towards the mouth of the Waimakariri, and when three or four miles from North Beach he picked up a ship's lifebuoy,, which evidently had been in the sea for some time. The letters (probably the name of a vessel) had been painted in black letters and were almost obliterated, but what appeared to be the letters "M U E" were decipherable on the belt. The only other marks were two small blotches of rod paint. There were no cords on tho belt, and two of tho bands to which the cords arc attached were missing.
