MALVERN POWER BOARD.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Malvern Electric Power Board met last week, when all the members were present. Mr G. H. Judd was in the chair. The Works Committee reported ..that out of four tenders received for. the gum-fell-ing contract, that of Mir E. Jones, of Darfield, had been accepted. The contractor had started at once and was making good progress. It was found that some of the trees would yield a'thirty foot pole after the first pole had been cut from the butt of the tree, and instructions were given to cut a second pole from each tree that would come up to the specifications. About seven hundred and fifty of the one thousand trees in Mr D. W. Finlay's plantation were marked, and these too are to be felled by the end of the month.

Working on the resolution to canvass two average lines as a test of whether to proceed with the reticulation or not, a meeting was called at.Greendale last week, and much enthusiasm was shown. Residents attended in satisfactory numbers. Mr Payne, the recently appointed inspector, was present, and gave details of costs, etc. About two hundred- pounds worth of guarantees were given in the room, and a useful committee was appointed to drive the inspector rouna until the Board's car is ready. There seems no doubt that the first line, Hororata-Green-dale, is assured if the scheme is carried out. The second line to be canvassed is the one between Hororata and Glentunnel, and work will be commenced there in a few days' time. If the second line canvass proves successful, tenders will he called for copper immediately, and the Kawhaka poles will be ordered. These poles will be used in tho Sheffieldi-Springfield, Darfield-Kirwee, and Hororata-Glentunnel transmission lines, but with regard to the Darfie'd-Shef-field line a more durable pole is under consideration. The gums, of which about 2500 will be in stack by the end of the month, will be used for the branch lines.

Instructions were given to prepare plans foT a store and inspector's office, as these, with a car shed and petrol store, will be required as soon as the work commences.
